NEW JERSEY, October 29, 2026 — NJ TRANSIT has launched a new free transportation service for seniors and people with disabilities in southern New Jersey, offering residents a more flexible way to travel within and between Camden and Gloucester counties.
The program, called CG Hopper, was officially introduced on October 28 in partnership with Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS), Camden County, Gloucester County, and transportation technology company Via.
The service provides free, on-demand shared rides, allowing eligible passengers to request transportation without following a fixed bus schedule.
Who Can Use the Free Service?
CG Hopper is available to residents aged 60 and older and people with disabilities living in Camden and Gloucester counties.
Passengers who already participate in transportation programs operated by SCUCS or the two counties will be automatically enrolled.
New passengers must complete a one-time registration process to confirm their eligibility. Individuals applying based on a disability must provide medical verification.
How Does CG Hopper Work?
The service operates similarly to a ride-booking platform, allowing passengers to request transportation when needed.
Rides can be reserved through the CG Hopper mobile app, an online booking platform, or by telephone.
Passengers enter their pickup and destination locations, receive booking information, and meet the driver at the designated pickup point.
The service offers curb-to-curb transportation using five accessible Toyota Sienna minivans.
Passengers may travel with a companion or personal care attendant, and service animals are permitted.
CG Hopper also provides connections to NJ TRANSIT bus routes, train stations, light rail services, and Access Link service areas.
An 18-Month Pilot Program
The initiative is being introduced as an 18-month pilot program designed to improve transportation access for residents who may face difficulties using conventional public transportation.
The service also offers extended operating hours and transportation between the two participating counties.
Governor Mikie Sherrill welcomed the program, emphasizing the importance of reliable transportation in helping older residents and people with disabilities remain independent.
NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kris Kolluri said the partnership is intended to make transportation more accessible and provide greater flexibility for residents traveling across county boundaries.
Rutgers University’s Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center will evaluate the program’s performance and help determine whether similar transportation initiatives could be introduced elsewhere in New Jersey.
How to Register
Eligible residents can register through Senior Citizens United Community Services or Gloucester County’s transportation services.
Residents of Camden County can contact SCUCS at 856-456-1121 for registration information.
Once registered, passengers can arrange free transportation through the CG Hopper app, online, or by phone.
The service is currently limited to designated areas of Camden and Gloucester counties and is not available statewide.
The program represents a new effort to improve everyday mobility for residents who need additional transportation assistance.
