November 1, 2026 — Hours after appearing alongside Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers at a Detroit church, Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens officially endorsed him, reversing her earlier support for Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
In a video posted on X, Stevens announced that she was endorsing Rogers after being excluded from a planned campaign event with El-Sayed, who defeated her in the Democratic primary in August.
Her decision prompted a strong response from the Michigan Democratic Party.
In a statement posted on X, the party reaffirmed its full support for El-Sayed and rejected what it described as attempts by Stevens and others to divide Democrats and undermine their campaign.
The statement directed readers to additional remarks from Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel Jr. and Vice Chair Portia Roberson.
The endorsement represents a significant escalation in the dispute between Stevens and El-Sayed, which has centered partly on disagreements over Israel and campaign messaging.
Stevens’ decision also marks an unusual break with her own party, as she is now publicly supporting the Republican candidate endorsed by President Donald Trump.
The development comes just two days before Michigan voters choose their next U.S. senator on November 3.
The political consequences of the endorsement remain uncertain, but the dispute has exposed sharp divisions within the Democratic Party during the final days of the campaign.
