Powerful storm surge and rough water are creating dangerous conditions in Surf City, New Jersey, where boats are being pushed into walls and nearby structures as a nor’easter continues to batter the Jersey Shore.
Video from the area shows vessels being tossed around by rising water and strong waves, with some boats forced directly into bulkheads and structures along the waterfront.
Floodwaters Continue to Rise
Conditions in Surf City worsened through the morning as water from Manahawkin Bay pushed farther inland.
On-scene video showed streets becoming impassable, vehicles surrounded by floodwater and homes in low-lying areas increasingly affected by the rising tide.
By around 9 a.m., parts of the west side of Surf City were already described as nearly crippled by flooding, with roads underwater and access severely limited.
Waves From Manahawkin Bay Hit Homes
Additional footage showed powerful waves from Manahawkin Bay crashing toward homes and pushing water deeper into residential areas.
The combination of storm surge, high tide, strong winds and rough bay conditions has made the flooding particularly dangerous, especially around docks, boats and waterfront properties.
The National Weather Service has warned of significant coastal flooding across parts of the Jersey Shore, with low-lying communities vulnerable to several feet of water above normally dry ground during the strongest tide cycles.
More Flooding Possible
The storm is expected to continue affecting the region through additional high-tide cycles, meaning conditions could worsen again before water levels begin to recede.
Residents are being urged to avoid flooded roads and waterfront areas, where rapidly moving water and floating debris can create additional hazards.
For Surf City, the latest videos show just how severe the storm surge has become — not only covering streets, but physically moving boats and pushing waves toward homes.
