NEW JERSEY — November 2, 2026 — Voters across New Jersey will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, to participate in the 2026 general election, choosing representatives for Congress and voting in local contests that will help determine the direction of their communities.

With Election Day approaching, the New Jersey Division of Elections is reminding residents to check their polling locations, understand voting requirements, and follow the deadlines for returning mail-in ballots.

Here is what New Jersey voters need to know before heading to the polls.

What Time Do Polling Places Open?

All Election Day polling places in New Jersey will be open on Tuesday, November 3, from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Voters who are already in line when polls close at 8:00 p.m. have the right to remain in line and vote.

Early in-person voting, which ran from October 24 through November 1, has already ended.

Where Can You Vote?

On Election Day, voters must go to their assigned polling location.

The location may differ from the early voting centers used during the previous nine days.

Residents can find their assigned polling place through the official New Jersey Voter Information Portal:

https://TrackMyBallot.nj.gov

https://TrackMyBallot.nj.gov

The website also provides voter registration information, election resources, and contact details for county election officials.

Voters are encouraged to check their polling location before leaving home, particularly if they have recently moved or their usual polling location has changed.

Do You Need Identification?

Most registered New Jersey voters are not required to present photo identification when voting in person.

However, certain first-time voters may be required to provide identification if their identity was not verified during registration.

Acceptable documentation may include an appropriate photo ID or other qualifying documents showing the voter’s name and address.

Voters who are uncertain about identification requirements should contact their county election officials or consult the state’s official voter guidance.

What If Your Name Is Missing From the Voter List?

If a voter arrives at the correct polling place but election workers cannot confirm their eligibility, the voter may be offered a provisional ballot.

A provisional ballot allows an individual to cast a paper ballot while election officials determine eligibility.

If the county Board of Elections subsequently verifies that the voter was eligible and the ballot meets applicable requirements, the vote will be counted.

Voters should not leave without asking election workers about their options if they believe they are properly registered.

What About Mail-In Ballots?

New Jersey voters who received mail-in ballots have several ways to return them.

By secure ballot drop box: Completed ballots must be deposited in an authorized county drop box by 8:00 p.m. on November 3.

In person: Completed ballots may be delivered directly to the voter’s county Board of Elections office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

By mail: Ballots must be postmarked no later than November 3 and received by the county Board of Elections by November 9, 2026.

Voters mailing their ballots on Election Day should visit a post office counter and request a dated postmark rather than assume that placing a ballot in a mailbox guarantees a timely postmark.

Important: Mail-in ballots cannot be returned to regular Election Day polling locations.

What If You Requested a Mail-In Ballot but Want to Vote in Person?

Voters who have received a mail-in ballot but have not returned it cannot simply vote on a voting machine as if they had never requested one.

Under New Jersey rules, they may vote using a paper provisional ballot at their assigned polling place.

Election officials will determine whether the provisional ballot is eligible to be counted, ensuring that each voter casts only one valid ballot in the election.

What Should You Check Before Submitting Your Ballot?

Voters should carefully review the complete ballot before submitting it.

New Jersey’s general election allows voters to choose candidates regardless of the political party with which they are registered.

Voters are not required to select every candidate from the same political party.

They should also check both sides of the ballot, when applicable, for additional races or public questions.

Leaving an individual contest blank does not invalidate votes properly cast in other contests.

Assistance for Voters With Disabilities

New Jersey polling places are required to provide accommodations for voters with disabilities.

Accessible voting equipment and assistance are available for voters who need help casting their ballots.

Anyone experiencing accessibility problems should speak with election officials at the polling place or contact their county election office.

How Can You Check Whether Your Mail-In Ballot Was Received?

Voters who submitted a mail-in ballot can use New Jersey’s official ballot tracking system:

https://TrackMyBallot.nj.gov

First-time users of the tracking system must create an account and verify their identity using accepted registration information.

The system allows voters to monitor the status of their submitted ballots.

Who Can You Contact if There Is a Problem?

Residents with voting questions or difficulties can contact the New Jersey Division of Elections.

New Jersey Voter Information Hotline: 1-877-NJ-VOTER (1-877-658-6837)

County election officials can also assist voters with questions about polling locations, registration records, provisional ballots, and mail-in voting procedures.

Voters should rely on official election resources rather than unverified social media claims about voting locations or procedures.

Election Day Is November 3

The November 3 election will determine New Jersey’s representation in the U.S. House of Representatives, its U.S. Senate seat, and various county and municipal offices.

The exact contests appearing on an individual ballot depend on the voter’s residence.

New Jersey residents are encouraged to review their sample ballots, confirm their assigned polling places, and understand the voting process before Election Day.

Polling places will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3. Every eligible voter should have the information needed to participate safely, independently, and confidently in the democratic process.
