President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in San Antonio, Texas, was repeatedly interrupted Wednesday night by protesters, with one confrontation escalating into a physical scuffle among people in the crowd.
Trump was speaking at the Freeman Coliseum in support of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton when a heckler began shouting from the audience. Video from the event shows the man moving through the crowd while filming himself as Trump supporters booed and pointed toward the exits.
The confrontation then turned physical.
Footage reviewed by several outlets shows a man wearing a MAGA hat rushing toward the heckler from behind, grabbing him by the hair and pulling him down. Other people nearby became involved, creating a brief but chaotic struggle before the confrontation was broken up.
The incident was not the only interruption during Trump’s speech. The Associated Press reported that multiple protesters disrupted the rally and that police removed at least one demonstrator from the arena.
According to reports from the event, Trump watched as the disturbance unfolded and continued his remarks after the protester was removed.
The San Antonio rally was held as Trump campaigned for Paxton in a closely watched Texas Senate race. It was Trump’s latest visit to the state as Republicans work to defend congressional seats ahead of the November midterm elections.
Outside the arena, protesters had also gathered before the event, with local media reporting demonstrations organized by several groups opposed to Trump’s policies.
The circumstances surrounding the physical confrontation inside the arena, including whether anyone was injured or charged, were not immediately clear.
