President Donald Trump again described himself as a “high IQ person,” continuing a theme he has repeatedly emphasized in recent remarks about leadership, technology and artificial intelligence.
Trump has frequently used IQ as shorthand for intelligence and decision-making ability. In recent comments about AI, he argued that the technology does not need excessive regulation and said the country instead needs strong, intelligent leadership. CNN reported that Trump recently said the only guardrail AI needs is a “strong and smart (high IQ) president.”
The president has also repeatedly praised technology executives whom he considers highly intelligent. During a White House event in July, Trump said he was “a cheerleader for geniuses” and that he loves “high IQ people,” specifically mentioning Elon Musk and saying he regularly speaks with major technology leaders including Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos.
Trump’s latest self-description fits into that broader message: he often presents intelligence, technological leadership and rapid decision-making as central to his approach to governing.
His remarks have come as Washington debates how aggressively the United States should regulate artificial intelligence while competing with China in the development of increasingly powerful AI systems.
