Thirteen people were injured early Monday morning after a shuttle bus carrying airport workers crashed into a concrete barrier at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The crash happened at approximately 3 a.m. on August 31 on the Terminal B Departures Level 3 roadway. The bus reportedly jumped a curb before striking the concrete barrier, causing significant damage to the front of the vehicle.
According to ABC7 New York, three people suffered serious injuries, while 10 others sustained minor injuries. Authorities said none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
Emergency crews, including Port Authority police, responded to the airport shortly after the crash. Those who were injured were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Images and video from the scene showed extensive damage to the front right side of the bus, including a shattered windshield. New Jersey 101.5 reported that the full-size bus was carrying airport workers and was operated by Academy Bus.
The crash temporarily disrupted traffic around Terminal B. The Level 3 departures roadway was closed while police investigated and crews removed debris from the area. Passengers departing from Terminal B were temporarily directed to use Level 2 for drop-offs.and treatment.

Despite the roadway closure, airport operations continued and officials said air traffic was not affected. News 12 New Jersey later reported that the Level 3 roadway had reopened after being closed for several hours.
The crash occurred during the early-morning hours, when Newark Liberty is already beginning to see employees and passengers arriving for the day’s flights. Terminal B handles many of Newark Airport’s international operations, making its departures roadway one of the airport’s important passenger access points.
Authorities have not yet said what caused the shuttle bus to leave its normal path and strike the barrier. The identities of the driver and the people injured in the crash have also not been released.
The incident remains under investigation by the Port Authority Police Department.
Newark Liberty International Airport is one of the busiest airports serving the New York metropolitan region and a major transportation hub for New Jersey. Monday morning’s crash affected ground traffic around Terminal B, but there was no reported interruption to arriving or departing flights.
