A heated confrontation at a Pemberton Township Council meeting in Burlington County, New Jersey, escalated Wednesday evening when Republican Mayor Matthew Bianchini reportedly charged toward a resident who had been criticizing him.
The incident occurred on October 21, 2026, and was captured on video by Ryan Elmore, a reporter for the Pine Barrens Tribune.
According to the newspaper’s account, Bianchini became visibly angry during the public meeting and moved aggressively toward a resident, prompting others in the room to intervene.
Mayor Had to Be Physically Restrained
The mayor was reportedly stopped by a former police chief who had served as the township’s director of Community Development and had been fired by Bianchini approximately two weeks earlier.
A township councilman who previously worked as a police officer also intervened, helping restrain the mayor and escort him out of the room.
During the confrontation, Bianchini allegedly shouted at the resident:
“I am getting you — I am f***ing getting you!”
The resident demanded that the mayor be arrested immediately. However, according to the reporter who recorded the confrontation, no arrest appeared to have taken place at the scene.
All individuals involved in the altercation were eventually asked to leave the meeting.
Republican Mayor Already Facing Local Political Tensions
Bianchini, a Republican, was appointed mayor in January 2026 following the resignation of former Mayor Jack Tompkins.
He is also a Republican candidate for a full mayoral term in the November 2026 election.
The incident comes amid ongoing political disputes in Pemberton Township, including disagreements involving local officials and municipal employees.
The Pine Barrens Tribune previously reported other contentious council meetings involving Bianchini, including an August incident in which he made an offensive gesture toward a resident.
More Details Expected
The Pine Barrens Tribune announced that it plans to publish additional reporting in its upcoming weekend edition, including the circumstances leading up to the confrontation and reactions from those involved.
The video has attracted attention online, raising questions about the conduct of elected officials during public meetings.
As of the initial report, no confirmed information was available indicating that the mayor had been arrested or formally charged in connection with the confrontation.
