Vice President JD Vance sharply responded to Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed after El-Sayed made a social media remark involving Vance’s wife, Usha Vance.
The exchange followed comments Vance made while discussing sharia law and American values. El-Sayed responded online with a reference to Usha Vance, asking whether Vance would take his wife back in time with him to meet his grandfather.
Vance addressed the comment during a political event in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where he was campaigning alongside Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers.
“Keep my wife’s name the hell out of your mouth, because she’s way out of your league,” Vance told El-Sayed, drawing a loud reaction from the crowd.
Vance also questioned why his wife had been brought into the political dispute, noting that Usha Vance is not a candidate and is not on the ballot.
The exchange quickly spread across social media and became another heated moment in Michigan’s increasingly competitive Senate race.
