A striking video from Surf City, New Jersey, shows what appears to be a shark swimming through a flooded street as the nor’easter continues to batter parts of the Jersey Shore.

The footage, shared by multiple media outlets and social-media accounts, shows a large marine animal moving through floodwaters with a fin visible above the surface.

News 12 New Jersey also reported the sighting from Surf City as severe coastal flooding pushed seawater into streets across Long Beach Island.

Surf City has been among the Jersey Shore communities dealing with significant flooding during the storm, with seawater covering roads and entering low-lying residential areas.

The unusual video quickly drew attention online as residents documented some of the most dramatic effects of the nor’easter.

While the animal in the video has widely been described as a shark, local authorities have not publicly announced a formal species identification.

The scene nevertheless highlights just how far seawater has pushed inland during this weekend’s coastal flooding.
