Hudson County is closing out September with two major community events — one focused on safety and another on music, arts and family activities.

More than 450 runners of all ages joined Hudson County Executive Craig Guy on September 19 for the 5th Annual Hudson County Strides for Safety 5K: A Race Against Gun Violence at Lincoln Park in Jersey City.

The event brought together runners, families and community members for a day centered on awareness, public safety and prevention of gun violence. This year’s program also included activities for younger participants, including a Kids Fun Run.

Just days later, Jersey City is preparing for another large community event.

Beginning Thursday, September 24, the New Jersey Symphony will present the Jersey City Music and Arts Festival at Provost Plaza. The festival will run through October 3 and will feature eight days of music, dance, film, wellness activities and family programming.

The opening program includes a chamber concert by New Jersey Symphony musicians, while additional events are expected to include movie screenings, Kids Day, Salsa Night, dance performances and other cultural activities.

The festival is being held at Provost Plaza in Jersey City’s Powerhouse Arts District, near the Grove Street PATH station.

Together, the two events highlight a busy period for Hudson County, with community programming ranging from public-safety awareness to arts, culture and family entertainment.
