NEPAL — Two workers have been rescued alive after spending nine days trapped inside a hydropower tunnel following severe flooding in Nepal.
The workers became trapped at the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower project after flooding and debris blocked access to parts of the tunnel on August 26.
Rescue teams worked for days to clear debris and reach the men. They were eventually located approximately 170 meters inside the tunnel, where rescuers confirmed that both were still alive.
The two workers were brought safely to the surface on Friday, September 4, and taken for medical evaluation.
Their rescue comes as Nepal continues to recover from severe flooding and landslides that have caused deaths, damaged infrastructure and disrupted communities across affected areas.
After nine days underground, the successful operation offered a rare positive moment amid the broader disaster response and highlighted the persistence of rescue crews working in difficult and dangerous conditions.
The workers are now receiving medical care while authorities continue rescue and recovery operations in the region.
