October 23, 2026 | Washington, D.C.. President Donald Trump has called for Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to resign immediately, accusing her of using a false name when she was sworn into Congress. Omar’s office has firmly rejected the accusation, insisting that Ilhan Omar is her real name.

The latest controversy follows a federal court filing connected to an ongoing investigation into Omar’s immigration and citizenship records.

Trump Calls for Immediate Resignation

On October 22, Trump posted on Truth Social that Omar should immediately resign from Congress because she had allegedly taken her oath of office under a false identity.

He claimed that her real name was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi and asserted that she had admitted to fraud.

Trump also called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to recognize Omar’s congressional seat as vacant.

However, Omar has made no such admission, and no court has established that she used a fraudulent identity.

What the Court Document Actually Says

The controversy intensified after an October 21 Justice Department court filing identified the Minnesota congresswoman as:

“Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”

The abbreviation a/k/a means also known as, a designation commonly used in legal documents to identify alternative names.

Prosecutors did not explain why the alternative name appeared in the filing.

Importantly, the use of an alternative name in a court document does not, by itself, establish identity fraud or prove that a person was illegally sworn into public office.

Omar’s Office Rejects the Accusation

A spokesperson for Omar responded to the allegations, telling Fox News Digital:

“This is completely false. Ilhan Omar is her real name.”

Her office has repeatedly rejected allegations concerning her identity and immigration history.

Omar, who arrived in the United States as a child after fleeing Somalia, became an American citizen in 2000.

She has denied wrongdoing and accused the Trump administration of using federal investigative powers to target a political opponent.

Federal Investigation and Political Tensions

The latest accusation comes after federal agents searched Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence on October 12 as part of an investigation involving immigration and citizenship documents.

Omar has described the early-morning raid as deeply unsettling and said the publicity surrounding the search has created additional security concerns for her family.

She recently announced plans to leave her Washington home because of death threats and fears that her children could be targeted.

The confrontation between Trump and Omar has intensified in the weeks leading up to the November 3 midterm elections.

An Allegation Is Not a Legal Finding

While federal authorities may investigate possible irregularities in immigration records, allegations must be supported by evidence and evaluated through established legal procedures.

A president’s public demand does not automatically remove an elected member of Congress from office.

No court has established that Omar committed identity fraud, and Trump’s claim that she admitted wrongdoing is not supported by the available evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing, while Omar’s office continues to reject the allegations.
