NEWARK, NJ — A major redevelopment project that has been years in the making is moving closer to construction after RBH Group secured nearly $37 million in financing for properties in the heart of downtown Newark.
The financing covers a 5.65-acre portfolio that includes 101 Market Street and 193 Market Street, two key sites in RBH Group’s long-planned Four Corners project. Meridian Capital Group arranged the financing, which was provided by CDK.
According to Real Estate NJ, RBH Group says it has already obtained building permits and is finalizing contracts and remaining financing details, with construction expected to move forward in the coming months. (Re-NJ)
Hundreds of Apartments Planned
One of the centerpiece developments is 101 Market Street, where plans call for a mixed-use residential tower with 420 apartments and ground-floor retail space, according to Commercial Observer.
The larger Four Corners vision extends beyond a single building. RBH describes the project as a redevelopment of the historic downtown district featuring a combination of residential, hotel, office and retail buildings designed to bring more residents, businesses and activity to the area.
The project has been discussed and developed over many years, making the new financing an important step toward turning plans and renderings into actual construction.
A Major Piece of Downtown Newark’s Transformation
Four Corners sits in one of Newark’s most historically significant downtown areas, centered around the Broad and Market Street intersection.
RBH Group CEO Ron Beit said the company has remained committed to Newark for more than two decades and described the financing as another milestone toward creating new housing and contributing to the city’s continued redevelopment. (Re-NJ)
If construction proceeds as planned, the project could add hundreds of new residents along with new commercial space to a section of downtown Newark that developers and city officials have sought to revitalize for years.
For Newark, the nearly $37 million financing package is not simply another real estate transaction — it could finally help move one of downtown’s longest-awaited redevelopment projects from the planning stage toward construction.
