A heartbreaking new detail has emerged about Erin Piacenti, the 32-year-old New Jersey woman killed in a random stabbing in Times Square on Monday.
Piacenti, a new mother who lived in Chester, New Jersey, had returned to work that day for the first time after maternity leave. She was heading home after work when she was attacked, according to reports citing a GoFundMe page created for her family.
Piacenti worked as a vice president at Bank of America and had recently welcomed her first child, a daughter named Madison.
First Day Back at Work
Monday marked her first day back at the office following maternity leave. She was returning home when police say Pamela Cisneros, 49, of Queens, attacked her near Times Square in what authorities described as a random and unprovoked stabbing.
Piacenti was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Another Man Was Also Stabbed
Police say Cisneros also stabbed a 68-year-old man shortly before attacking Piacenti. He survived the attack.
Officers confronted Cisneros while she was holding two knives and repeatedly ordered her to drop them. According to police, she refused and advanced toward officers. Cisneros was subsequently shot and killed by NYPD officers.
The NYPD Force Investigation Division is reviewing the police shooting.
A Young Family Left Behind
Piacenti had recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary and had purchased a home in Chester with her husband, Frank. Both were graduates of Fordham Law School.
Her family described her as a devoted wife and mother. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support her young daughter and family following her death.
Bank of America also issued a statement mourning Piacenti, describing her as a valued member of the company who would be deeply missed.
The revelation that Piacenti was killed on the very day she returned to work after maternity leave has added another devastating dimension to a case that has already shocked both New York and her New Jersey community.
