PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton police are investigating after a group of approximately a dozen people marched through the town Saturday carrying flags associated with white supremacist organizations and a large banner reading “KEEP NEW JERSEY WHITE.”
According to Princeton Police, the demonstration took place on Saturday, August 29, and the group had not applied for a permit from the municipality. Officers received reports about the gathering and responded to the area.
Photos circulating on social media show participants standing near a Princeton intersection with their faces largely covered by neck gaiters. The banner they carried prominently displayed the words “Keep New Jersey White.”
Police said the approximately 12 individuals were carrying several flags that have been associated with white supremacist groups operating in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Authorities have not publicly identified the participants.
Images of the demonstration began spreading online over the weekend and initially raised questions about when and where the photograph had been taken. With the confirmation from Princeton Police, authorities have now established that the gathering did occur in Princeton on Saturday.
The incident comes amid continuing concerns over hate-based activity and extremist propaganda in the area. Earlier this summer, Princeton Police investigated antisemitic stickers placed around the community, saying the material appeared intended to intimidate, harass or promote hatred toward members of the Jewish community.
The latest demonstration has generated strong reactions online, particularly because participants openly displayed a message calling for New Jersey to remain white while concealing their identities.
