NEW JERSEY — Major changes to NJ TRANSIT rail service take effect Sunday as NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak begin a critical phase of construction on the new Portal North Bridge.

Governor Mikie Sherrill issued a public reminder that temporary service adjustments will remain in place through November 15, affecting nearly every NJ TRANSIT rail line.

The changes are part of a major infrastructure project to transfer the final track from the 116-year-old Portal Bridge to its modern replacement.

Nearly All Rail Lines Affected

According to Governor Sherrill, passengers on all NJ TRANSIT rail lines except the Atlantic City Rail Line should expect temporary schedule changes.

These may include canceled trains, combined services, adjusted departure times, and changes to station stops.

The disruptions are expected to affect thousands of commuters who rely on the rail network to travel throughout New Jersey and into New York City.

Midtown Direct Trains Rerouted to Hoboken

One of the most significant changes begins Monday, October 12.

During weekdays, Midtown Direct trains will operate to and from Hoboken
