Strong winds sent a giant inflatable pumpkin rolling down a road near Raleigh, creating a hilarious moment captured on video by an Uber driver.

CARY, NORTH CAROLINA — October 13, 2026 — As the remnants of Hurricane Isaias brought strong winds and severe weather to parts of North Carolina, one unexpected object became the star of a viral video: a giant inflatable Halloween pumpkin.

The enormous orange decoration broke loose in Cary, a town just outside Raleigh, and began rolling down a road, surprising drivers and pedestrians.

An Uber driver captured the unusual scene on video as the runaway pumpkin moved toward his vehicle.

A Giant Pumpkin on the Loose

In the footage shared by AccuWeather on October 12, the inflatable pumpkin can be seen rolling along the roadway, pushed by powerful gusts of wind.

As it approaches the vehicle, the driver becomes increasingly concerned.

“It’s gonna hit us!” he exclaims.

His passenger urges him to turn around before the pumpkin reaches the car.

But the enormous Halloween decoration keeps moving, creating a scene that looks more like a comedy movie than a typical weather report.

One Man Tries to Stop the Runaway Pumpkin

The video also shows a man attempting to stop the giant inflatable decoration as it continues rolling down the street.

The Uber driver and his passenger watch the effort unfold, wondering whether the man will manage to catch it.

At one point, the driver considers getting out to help.

Despite the struggle, the pumpkin is eventually recovered and returned to its owner, according to AccuWeather.

The unusual incident ended with an amusing story rather than a reported serious injury.

Hurricane Isaias Brought Dangerous Weather

Although the pumpkin’s escape provided a moment of humor, the weather responsible for sending it rolling was part of a much more serious storm system.

Hurricane Isaias struck the Florida Panhandle on October 9 before weakening and moving inland.

Its remnants brought heavy rainfall, damaging winds, flooding, and tornado threats to parts of the southeastern United States, including the Carolinas.

Communities across the region experienced storm-related damage, and emergency crews responded to flooding, fallen trees, and power outages.

The runaway pumpkin demonstrated how easily large outdoor decorations can become airborne or roll into roadways during strong winds.

A Halloween Surprise During Storm Season

With Halloween approaching, oversized inflatable pumpkins, ghosts, and other decorations are appearing outside homes and businesses across the country.

But strong winds can quickly turn these lightweight displays into unexpected moving hazards.

The giant pumpkin in Cary offered a humorous reminder of the importance of securing outdoor decorations during severe weather.

For the Uber driver and his passenger, however, the incident became an unforgettable Halloween-season encounter.

Sometimes, all it takes is a little wind to turn a Halloween decoration into the most unexpected traveler on the road.
