Teaneck High School is mourning the loss of a longtime educator whose work touched students, colleagues and families across the school community.

TEANECK, NJ — Gorki Marcelo, a business teacher at Teaneck High School, died Thursday, August 13, at the age of 47, according to Teaneck Public Schools and funeral home information.

Marcelo was remembered by school officials as a dedicated educator and colleague who made a lasting impact on the people around him.

Interim Superintendent Angela R. Davis said in a message to the school community that Marcelo’s presence had touched students, staff and families and that his commitment to students and contributions to Teaneck High School would be remembered with appreciation.

Marcelo was born November 27, 1978, in the Dominican Republic. He is survived by his wife, Omaira, and daughters, Leilani and Alina.

No cause of death has been publicly announced.

News of his death quickly reached the broader North Jersey community Friday evening, with both NorthJersey.com and Daily Voice Bergen County reporting on the loss.

For a school community preparing to begin another academic year, the announcement comes as a painful loss of an educator who had become part of the everyday life of Teaneck High School.
