WASHINGTON — White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says she is leaving one of the most visible jobs in the Trump administration after concluding that she cannot give both the demanding role and her two young children the time and attention they deserve. She will remain politically active as an outside adviser to President Donald Trump.
“I Cannot Be the Best Mom My Two Young Children Deserve”
In a statement posted on her X account, Leavitt described serving as White House press secretary over the past year and a half as “the honor and adventure of a lifetime.”
But she said becoming a mother again while working in one of the most demanding positions in Washington had changed her perspective.
Since returning to the White House following the birth of her daughter, Leavitt said she had come to feel that she could not be the mother she wanted to be while continuing to devote the constant time, energy and attention required by the press secretary role.
She described her departure as a “bittersweet decision” and said she is ready to begin a new chapter.
She Is Not Leaving Trump’s Political Circle
Leavitt made clear that her departure from the White House does not mean she is leaving politics.
She said President Trump has asked her to continue serving as a top outside adviser and that she intends to remain a vocal advocate for MAGA and the Republican Party.
Her statement also included a strongly partisan message criticizing the Democratic Party and promising that her political involvement is “far from over.”
A Personal Thank You to the Trump White House
Leavitt thanked Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, the Trump family, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, her staff and colleagues, as well as her husband and family.
She particularly acknowledged the sacrifices her family made while she served in the White House.
Her departure therefore appears less like an exit from political life and more like a change in role — stepping away from the daily demands of the White House podium while remaining closely connected to Trump and Republican politics.
