The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford was more than the biggest soccer match of the year—it was also a gathering of world leaders, sports legends, and internationally recognized celebrities.

Among the distinguished guests was New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, who shared photos and highlights from the unforgettable day on her Facebook page. She reflected on the electric atmosphere inside the stadium, the massive Spain and Argentina flags covering the pitch before kickoff, and the pride of seeing New Jersey flags displayed among thousands of fans.

During the event, Governor Sherrill met several well-known figures, including tennis legend Novak Djokovic, Brazilian soccer icon Ronaldinho, actor and longtime New Jersey resident Tracy Morgan, and Jill Ellis, one of the most successful coaches in the history of women’s soccer. She also posed with a replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy and thanked the fans, stadium workers, New Jersey State Troopers, and visitors from around the world for making the event so memorable.

“What a day for our state, what a final!” Governor Sherrill wrote on Facebook alongside a gallery of photos from the championship match.

The World Cup Final once again demonstrated that soccer’s biggest stage attracts far more than the world’s best teams. It brings together global leaders, legendary athletes, and entertainment icons, placing New Jersey at the center of the world’s attention for one unforgettable day.
