President Donald Trump delivered a sharp warning to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday, accusing him of ignoring repeated American requests to stop attacking Russian oil refineries and suggesting that Ukraine needs a new president.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on October 10, Trump expressed frustration over Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, arguing that the attacks threaten global diesel supplies and could hurt American farmers, ranchers, and consumers.

“He better damn well stop,” Trump warned, referring to Zelenskyy and the continued attacks on Russian refineries.

Trump Says Zelensky Ignored His Warnings

Trump said he had specifically warned Zelenskyy against targeting Russian facilities that supply diesel fuel to international markets.

According to the president, Ukraine continued its attacks despite those warnings, contributing to an already strained global energy market.

Trump argued that damaging Russian refineries could deepen fuel shortages and increase costs for American agriculture and transportation.

His criticism went beyond energy policy. Trump also openly questioned Zelenskyy’s leadership, saying Ukraine should consider replacing him with someone capable of negotiating an end to the war.

“I think it’s time for Ukraine to get a new president,” Trump told reporters.

A Controversial Deal Between Trump and Putin

Trump’s statements came one day after he announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to ease restrictions on Russian diesel supplies.

Under the arrangement, Russia is expected to deliver more than 300,000 tons of diesel initially, with additional shipments planned.

The White House argues that the deal could help reduce fuel prices, which have risen amid disruptions to international energy markets.

However, energy analysts have questioned whether the agreement will substantially lower prices. Critics also warn that increased Russian energy revenues could provide Moscow with additional resources to finance its war.

Zelensky Says Ukraine Is Defending Itself

Zelenskyy strongly criticized the American agreement with Russia, arguing that easing sanctions would reward Moscow while Russian forces continue attacking Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

According to Axios, Zelenskyy had offered to suspend attacks on Russian oil refineries if Russia agreed to stop targeting Ukrainian power plants.

The Trump administration, however, wanted Ukraine to halt its refinery strikes without requiring the same immediate commitment from Russia.

Ukraine maintains that its attacks on Russian energy facilities are intended to weaken Moscow’s ability to finance and sustain its military operations.

Russia Continues Attacking Ukrainian Cities

The diplomatic confrontation comes as fighting continues across Ukraine.

On Saturday, a Russian missile attack on Zaporizhzhia killed 20 people, including three children, according to Ukrainian authorities cited by Reuters.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and energy infrastructure has become a major target in the continuing conflict.

While Trump argues that Ukrainian refinery attacks threaten global fuel supplies, Ukrainian officials insist that Russia’s ongoing military strikes cannot be ignored.

The latest dispute highlights a widening disagreement between Washington and Kyiv over how to end the war, how to manage the global energy crisis, and whether economic pressure on Russia should continue.
