Hollywood has returned to New Jersey as actress Sydney Sweeney was spotted filming scenes for her upcoming psychological thriller, The Housemaid’s Secret, at William Paterson University in Wayne.

Filming took place on Tuesday, October 6, with cameras, production equipment, and trailers appearing across the university campus.

According to the university’s student newspaper, The Beacon, production crews were working in several campus buildings, including Grant Hall. Student journalists documented the activity, and crew members confirmed that the production was for the sequel to The Housemaid.

A Hollywood Sequel With a New Mystery

The upcoming film is based on the second novel in Freida McFadden’s bestselling Housemaid series.

Sweeney returns as Millie Calloway, a housekeeper who accepts a mysterious new job working for a wealthy couple. She is forbidden from seeing the woman who employs her, but disturbing discoveries behind a locked door lead her into another dangerous mystery.

The cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Snow, Paul Anthony Kelly, and Michele Morrone, with Paul Feig returning as director.

The first film, The Housemaid, was also filmed in New Jersey, including locations in Ridgewood, and earned approximately $400 million worldwide.

New Jersey Continues to Attract Hollywood

The production highlights New Jersey’s growing presence in the film industry, as major studios increasingly use locations throughout the state.

For students at William Paterson University, the filming offered an unexpected glimpse into the world of professional filmmaking, transforming familiar campus buildings into a Hollywood movie set.

The Housemaid’s Secret is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027.
