Aziza Smailović
Founder & Editor-in-Chief, NJ Radar
Aziza Smailović is the founder and editor-in-chief of NJ RADAR, an educator, author, and journalist with extensive experience in education, science, and writing on social issues.
She has spent more than two decades working in education, primarily in physics and mathematics, and is the author of textbooks, problem collections, and texts dedicated to making science more accessible and improving the quality of teaching.
Her writing has appeared in several regional media outlets and publications. She was a contributor to Al Jazeera Balkans, where she wrote about education, culture, and society — her article on the Sarajevo Clock Tower, the only lunar clock in Europe, was cited as a reference on Wikipedia. She also wrote for Školegijum, focusing on education, curriculum content, and the quality of textbooks and teaching materials.
In 2015, she received recognition from the BUKA portal as the best political blogger of the year, as part of a project aimed at increasing women’s participation in public discourse on political, economic, and social issues. She has taken part in public debates, civil society initiatives, and has engaged with public policy questions.
Alongside her journalistic work, she develops her own educational projects. She is the creator of Aziza Physics, an educational platform active for nine years, dedicated to physics and scientific concepts, which also features a blog section. She is also the creator of Math Nana, a platform offering mathematical content, tools, and explanations designed for a broad audience.
Throughout her professional and creative work, she has focused on education, science, culture, social relations, and the public interest, with particular emphasis on clarity, fact-checking, and connecting broader social issues to the everyday lives of ordinary people.
She currently edits NJ RADAR, an independent portal focused on New Jersey, local communities, public policy, education, science, culture, and stories that often fall outside the reach of mainstream media.
NJ RADAR grew out of the same idea that has guided her work for years: to observe carefully what is happening around us, ask the right questions, and make complex topics understandable to a wider audience.
