A man has been charged after an altercation at the American Dream mall in East Rutherford ended with a pocketknife allegedly being thrown at another person, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers were called to the massive Bergen County shopping and entertainment complex on Friday night after reports of an assault. Police said the confrontation escalated and a pocketknife was allegedly thrown, causing minor injuries to the victim.

The suspect was identified as Jonathan Moore, 36, of Orange. Authorities said he was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and terroristic threats.

The incident took place at American Dream, one of New Jersey’s busiest retail and entertainment destinations, located next to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The complex regularly draws large crowds for shopping, dining, attractions, and major events, making any violent incident there especially noticeable.

Police have not released additional details about what led to the confrontation or whether the people involved knew each other before the incident.

Moore was taken to the Bergen County Jail and was being held pending a detention hearing.

The charges are accusations, and Moore is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
