Bergen County is preparing to send nearly 76,000 vote-by-mail ballots earlier than usual ahead of the November election, while also introducing a new tracking system designed to give voters more visibility into the delivery process.
According to county officials, outgoing ballot envelopes will include special U.S. Postal Service tracking barcodes. The system is intended to help election officials monitor when ballots enter the mail stream and provide additional information about their delivery status.
The change comes as election administrators across New Jersey continue to focus on mail ballot security, delivery times and voter confidence ahead of the fall election.
Bergen County Clerk officials said the earlier mailing schedule is intended to give voters more time to receive, complete and return their ballots before Election Day.
Voters who are registered to receive vote-by-mail ballots are encouraged to watch for their ballots in the mail and return them as early as possible.
The November election will include local, county and statewide races across New Jersey.
