Asbury Park is launching a new free public shuttle service today, giving residents and visitors another way to travel around the city without worrying about parking or fares.
The service officially begins Friday, August 28, at 1 p.m. and will operate Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m.
The shuttle will follow a fixed route with stops at several locations across Asbury Park, including City Hall, Springwood Park, Press Plaza, The Stone Pony, Convention Hall, Asbury Towers, Deal Lake Drive and Main Street. Riders may also ask the driver to let them off anywhere along the designated route.
The service is completely free, with no fares or tips accepted. Vehicles are accessible to riders with disabilities, and the program is funded by the State of New Jersey.
City officials say the goal is to make it easier for residents and visitors to move around Asbury Park while reducing traffic congestion and parking problems.
The seasonal shuttle is currently scheduled to operate through September 28.
